OUR PROJECTS
Since 2015, Friends of the University of Zambia physicians (also board members), namely Hemant Patel, MD and Shantu Patel, MD, have actively participated in annual medical missions that have been conducted in Zambia with the help of Christian Medical Brigades.
Also, in 2017 additional FUNZA board members, Hitesh Chauhan, MD, Anil Patel, MD, and Liaquat Allarakhia, MD, supported the delivery of 220 medical books to the library at UNZA School of Medicine.
During each medical mission, approximately 1,200 to 1,500 patients are seen and around $25,000 worth of medicine is distributed to these patients.
Attached is a video and pictures depicting the primary care medical work and services that were provided to local underprivileged communities in areas such as Mambilima (Luapula Province), Ndola, and Chiwala (Copperbelt Province).

About Us
Born and raised in Zambia, these childhood friends have come together as board members of the Friends of the University of Zambia. Despite the success achieved over the past three decades as they each devoted their time and educational skills towards building their careers and raising their families, these professionals have felt an indelible void in their lives. It has been said that success does not mean anything unless you have someone to share it with. And, had it not been for the opportunities afforded to them by their alma mater, University of Zambia, they would not be who they are today. The standard of excellence set by professors along with the enduring fellowship established by students forged a bond that neither time nor place can diminish. Full circle now complete, these board members have committed to the task of not only establishing an endowment but also funding and managing the endowment with transparency. Their goal, simply to give back to the country and university they hold dear to their hearts, Zambia.
